The long-lasting benefits. The effect of Beeston Hall School on its pupils is powerful and long-lasting. Leavers treasure their experience and find it is outstanding preparation for the wide range of national senior schools they go on to, with more than 65% this year winning scholarships or awards in the fields of academia, art, music and sport.

All-round education at its best. Beeston Hall is a small, busy school which has a family feel about it, welcoming children of all types and faiths. Every child is noticed and encouraged: each playing sport every day, participating in matches, playing roles in drama productions and taking part in a broad range of activities inside and outside the classroom. Over 90% play musical instruments, many more than one. From sailing to street dance; animation to ballet, fencing and debating, there are over 40 stimulating extra-curricular activities on offer in this outstanding 35-acre location on the beautiful North Norfolk coast, all of which contribute to our children’s all round preparation and success.

Outstanding academic achievement. Differentiated teaching means learning takes place in a range of ways and children find their strengths quickly in small classes of no more than 18. We are a consistently high achieving school with 74% of pupils scoring A-B in last year’s Common Entrance exams. We teach with regard for the UK National Curriculum, focusing on the eight core subjects of Common Entrance and the individual syllabuses of senior schools’ scholarships. There is a nurturing Learning Support Department, which identifies and helps any children who may require it. Our qualified EAL teacher ensures the individual needs are met (across the school) of children for whom English is a second language.

We know the personality of each child well. The school seeks to give each child the chance to reach his or her potential against a background of academic excellence, underpinned by a Christian ethos. The Headmaster leads a large body of staff that knows each child well and ensures robust systems are in place for the pastoral care of children. We make links with your nominated educational guardians and help in arranging this as necessary, to ensure that our role ‘in loco parentis’ is complete.

All-round pastoral care. There is all-round care for boarders from across the globe. Individual pupil guides are assigned to new children to help them settle in. There are cosy dormitories which the children are free to decorate and an extensive range of creative, drama, sport and cultural activities at weekends. Healthy and balanced menus are prepared on site, using locally-sourced produce and special dietary requirements accommodated. We have a zero tolerance policy towards bullying, with pupils and staff consulted and briefed on how to tackle it and other challenges of growing independence in a fast-changing world.

We have a full-sized astro turf pitch, heated 20m swimming pool, 25 acres of grass sports pitches, netball and tennis courts, large multi-purpose sports hall and an indoor shooting range.

Internationally accessible location. Despite its superb rural setting, Beeston is very convenient for international students, being just 35 minutes from Norwich Airport and its uniquely convenient connection to Amsterdam’s international hub (Schiphol). Children particularly like this route because of the small scale and ease of transfer, and KLM’s service for unaccompanied minors, one of the few airlines still operating this facility. Stansted Airport is two hours away and London 3 hours away. Although there is a train station five minutes from the school we can arrange transport with approved drivers or chaperones to/from these connections, and are happy to make arrangements for transfers on behalf of parents.

Valued membership to our school community. Overseas pupils are welcomed at Beeston and, whether attending for three years or three months, are fully integrated into school life, with individual EAL support as needed, throughout their time at the school. Several generations of overseas families continue to come, recommended by ‘word of mouth’ and the outstanding experience they enjoy. Full boarding is supplemented by visits to local Beeston families who are always welcoming.

A balance of nationalities to maximise the learning experience. We value the contribution international students make to our school. However, common language and nationalities can sometimes result in the formation of ‘too easy’ friendships and peer groups, defeating the object of immersion within an English speaking boarding school. To ensure our international students achieve the most from their stay with us, we choose to take only small numbers of overseas students from any one individual country.

Our exceptional ethos. The Headmaster is always delighted to meet and talk to parents about the unique experience of Beeston Hall School, where children are nurtured with patience in an atmosphere of kindness and courtesy, moving on with the right blend of humility and confidence to meet the challenges of their next stage of schooling.

100% success rate to first choice senior schools. We have 100% success rate in gaining entry to first choice national senior schools for pupils. Recent leavers have won places at: Ampleforth, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, Eton College, Gresham’s, Harrow, The Leys, Oakham, Oundle, The Perse, Queen Margaret’s, Rugby, Shrewsbury, Stowe, Tudor Hall and Uppingham.

We recognise and understand the differing needs of overseas boarders and are fully committed to ensuring that your child’s stay at Beeston is a happy and rewarding experience.

We offer special arrangements to services and diplomatic families to bring fees within FCO’s CEA ceiling. Bursaries and rewards are available at the Headmaster’s discretion.

Aspirations and hopes for a child may differ depending on the underlying purpose in sending him or her to Beeston. Many families require the ‘immersion’ to transform English language skills but many more are now seeing a year or two in an English prep school as the best springboard for entry and integration into premier UK senior schools, which is the gateway for outstanding GCSE and A level results and world class university education.

With the correct documentation, the process is straightforward. Every student must obtain permission to enter the UK in order to study. The only exceptions are children with a British passport or nationals of the European Economic Area (EEA) countries. Non EEA students require a student visa and application is made using the points-based student route. Help is available from the British Mission/Embassy/High Commission/Consulate-General in your own country (see www.fco.gov.uk for a list) or from the UK Border Agency (www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk).

Beeston Hall, as a licensed sponsor, will provide you with a visa letter which is an important part of the application process.

Our friendly office staff will help you through every step of the process and are always available to answer any questions. Please contact Mrs Viv Farnell, Registrar [email protected]

No pre-admission visit is required, but international students are asked to undertake an informal assessment of spoken and written ability, alongside a report from the child’s previous school. Basic English skills are required, but each case will be considered on its own merits. Bursaries and awards are available at the Headmaster’s discretion. In accordance with the normal practice, one full term’s notice is required before a child is removed from the school.

On the presumption they require EAL teaching, there is a 15% supplement on fees for pupils outside Europe, which covers up to two hours per week EAL tuition, EAL exam entries and the substantially greater administration required.
