"Much sport happens at school and the list of fixtures, with state and independent schools, both locally and nationally, is impressive. As a result the school's name and reputation is well established." - Independent Schools Council Inspection
All children delight in physical activity, especially when the extent and expectation are carefully gauged to maximise potential and provide as many children as possible with the opportunity to represent their school. This Beeston achieves with great success. Indeed, for a school its size, it has earned a reputation far and wide, with notable achievements at county, regional and national levels. We appreciate the enjoyment that children gain from their sport and the greater benefits to be derived other than just fitness and motor co-ordination - such as teamwork, sportsmanship, camaraderie and associated social skills. The timetable is arranged so that all the children receive quality coaching, regardless of their ability, with the greatest emphasis placed on encouragement and enjoyment.
The School's facilities include 25 acres of grass pitches, an athletics track, a full size Astro turf pitch, three all-weather tennis and netball courts, a grass tennis court, a shooting range, a modern sports hall with 4 badminton courts, both indoor and outdoor cricket nets and an outdoor heated swimming pool. Beeston owns its own fleet of 'Toppers', while there are also opportunities for golf, archery, croquet and other leisure pursuits.
In addition to a Physical Education lesson each week the children are involved most afternoons in a games session, where they are grouped and coached by age and ability in the individual and team skills of the major sports. There is also the opportunity for the less enthusiastic games player to participate in recreational activities once a week. In the Winter terms the major sports are Rugby, Hockey and Cross Country for boys and Netball, Hockey and Cross Country for girls. In the Summer term all pupils participate in Tennis, Athletics and Swimming, in addition to the major sports of Cricket and Rounders. |
